Thousands gather to attend the Wednesday night gala with great speakers and musicians. Here Night Watchman entertains the crowds.

November, 18, 2003

The security measures are very intense in Miami.

Some protesters are being harassed and arrested just for "looking like protesters".

Some homeless people have complained about being beaten by police in an effort to"clean up the streets" and hide the poverty.

Head of the Brazilian delegation, Luis Flippe de Macedo Solares, states at press conference that "the agreement made in Virgina with the US allows countries the options to choose what they are willing to include in the FTAA". Canada has come out very strongly opposed to this "a la carte" proposal, and has said that all countries must eat the full meal deal. Having opted for the American full meal deal, Canada wants all countries to eat the same bad food, and would not be satisfied with a "lite" deal.

US Trade negotiator Robert Zoellick is using his negotiations with Central American nations (due to be completed next month) as a way to build pressure for an an agressive FTAA. "Making progress with CAFTA will show the way for the rest of the hemisphere" says Zoellick in a photo opportunity with (left to right) Alberto Treses (Costa Rica), Miguel Lacayo (El Salvador), Robert Zoellick (US), Norman Garcia (Honduras), Patricia Ramirez (Guatemala), and Mario Arana (Nicaragua).
