The Council of Canadians holds “open-door” meeting against bulk water exports
WHAT:
Calgary — The Council of Canadians will hold an “open-door” meeting in Calgary to discuss the looming threats to bulk water posed by North American integration. The meeting will enable key civil society actors and the general public to discuss and share concerns with the process and content of the meetings that the US Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Conference Board of Canada and the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico will be hosting in Calgary on April 26 & 27.
WHO:
Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians and author of Too Close for Comfort: Canada’s future within Fortress North America. She is currently working on Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Fight for the Right to Water, her 16th book to be released in October, 2007.
Diana Gibson is the Research Director of the Parkland Institute, an Alberta research network situated within the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta.
Danielle Julien, Chairperson of Eau Secours’ international committee and Co-cordinator of the Intercommunal Franciscan animation service
Ralph Pentland, was Director of the Water Planning and Management Branch of Environment Canada for 13 years. He has co-chaired numerous International Joint Commission Boards over the past three decades, is currently a water and environmental consultant.
