WORLD WATER DAY: Council of Canadians delivers 45,000 petitions to John Baird
WHAT:
Susan Howatt, national water campaigner for the Council of Canadians will be paying Environment Minister John Baird a visit on March 21 – the day before World Water Day – to drop off boxes of petitions from close to 45, 000 Canadians demanding a national water policy that will protect Canadian waters from privatization, diversions and bulk water exports.
This is one of many World Water Day activities being carried out this week in 58 communities across Canada by the Council of Canadians, the Canadian Union of Public Employees and KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives.
WHO:
Susan Howatt: As the national water campaigner for the Council of Canadians, Susan has campaigned across Canada for a national water policy that would establish clean national drinking water standards, ensure adequate federal funding for water utilities in municipalities and First Nations communities and ban the bulk export of water.
The Council of Canadians is Canada’s largest citizens’ organization, with members and chapters across the country.
