Concerned citizens plan opposition to Tay River water withdrawal
Plan has major trade implications, says Council of Canadians
(OTTAWA)
WHO: Council of Canadians, concerned local citizens
WHAT: Public Forum to plan opposition to pending water withdrawal by OMYA, a Swiss transnational corporation that wants to extract and export 4.5 million litres of water a day from the Tay River, near Perth Ontario.
WHY: The Council of Canadians and seven local residents have launched an appeal to the Ontario Environmental Appeals Board to review its decision last August to grant a permit to OMYA. This permit was granted without adequate environmental information and with no consideration of the trade impacts. The project may trigger much broader obligations for water exports under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
WHEN: Tuesday, February 27, 7:30 pm.
WHERE: Perth and District Library, 30 Herriott Street, Perth, Ontario.
