Council of Canadians in Vancouver to urge doctors to support public health care
WHAT:
The Council of Canadians will be in Vancouver August 16 – 22 to promote the benefits of a publicly-funded and publicly-delivered health care system. The Council will be participating in a number of events in the lead-up to the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) annual meeting, which is taking place at the Westin Bayshore Hotel August 19-22. The CMA has recently released a policy paper that calls for increased privatization, private insurance and allowing doctors to work in both private and public sectors. The Council of Canadians is a citizens’ advocacy organization and will be joining with allies from the B.C. Health Coalition, the B.C. Hospital Employees Union, the BC Nurses Union and the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions to hold public events, provide educational material and speak to the media at this important meeting.
