Re: "Nuclear power only one option," The Edmonton Journal , July 21, 2007.
This excellent editorial outlines the need for a more democratic process in Alberta when considering industrial development. It also speaks to the need for more independent environmental studies.
All Albertans should be upset that nuclear power plants are being considered for Alberta in order to get dirty fossil fuels out of the ground. If the nuclear power plants were being built to provide energy for Canadian homes and businesses, I could understand it. I may not accept it, but I could understand it.
Greenhouse gases are produced in the mining of uranium and at each stage of the nuclear energy cycle. To use these nuclear power plants to extract more oil and produce more greenhouse gases makes no sense whatsoever.
