Canadian, Mexican and U.S. advocates to send message to leaders before SPP Summit
Critics of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) from Canada, Mexico and the United States will call on leaders attending the Montebello Summit to address growing calls for more democratic accountability in the SPP process. They are demanding that the agreement be submitted for debate and votes in each country’s legislature.
Maude Barlow of the Council of Canadians and Michele Asselin of the Federation des Femmes du Quebec will be joined by , Gustavo Iruegas, Foreign Affairs Secretary for the Legitimate Government of Mexico and Ann Wright, former U.S. State Department Official. The press conference will also include a speaker from a trinational meeting on energy security taking place in Montreal over the weekend.
The delegation will then head to Montebello to deliver 10,000 petitions to the Chateau Montebello where the leaders of the three NAFTA countries will be meeting.
