Description

Participants will explore key energy and environmental issues facing Canadians today, such as:

  • SPP plans for further U.S. takeover of Canada’s energy resources
  • NAFTA’s proportionality requirement to export Canadian oil and natural gas
  • Security of supply for eastern Canadians
  • Foreign ownership of Canada's oil and gas industry
  • Canada’s oil and the U.S/ military
  • Tarsands, emissions and the environment
  • Lack of future processing in Canada
  • The Keystone pipeline
  • Job loss in the energy sector and the high Canadian dollar
  • Democratic control and First Nations ownership

Gordon Laxer, Director and Cofounder of the Parkland Institute. Laxer is a political economist writing on energy issues.
