NAFTA, GATS and Implications for Post-Secondary Education

Description

The presentation will provide an overview of the General Agreement on Trade of Services (GATS) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the implications of free trade on education. With post-secondary institutions becoming increasingly privatized and the push toward commercialization of university research, free trade policies become vitally important. These policies have the potential to transform the institutions themselves and the funding environment within which they operate.
