TILMA: Free Trade West Coast Style and How to Stop it!

Description

The B.C./Alberta Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement comes into effect on April 1, 2007. Though signed in secret by both premiers, this pact will dramatically impact the ability of local municipalities to promote any legislation that private investors could consider a barrier, restriction or impediment to trade. Where have we heard this before? TILMA even has its own Chapter 11 clause, granting companies and individuals the right to sue provincial governments (and us, the citizens) for up to $5-million. Why did Alberta and B.C.’s premiers sign this agreement? How can it be reversed in the west and stopped from incorporating other provinces? How can local communities work to stop TILMA? What is the deep integration component of this agenda and who is backing the agreement? Come to this workshop and find out!
