Bonnie Brown, M.P. (Liberal), Oakville

Bonnie BrownBonnie was first elected as an Oakville school trustee, then to Town Council. She was then was elected to Halton Regional Council. Over a period of fourteen years, she has been elected five times as the Member of Parliament for Oakville. In Parliament, she originally chaired the Liberal caucus committee on social policy. She moved on to chair the Commons all-party Standing Committee on Health. In May of 2006 she was appointed Opposition Critic for Social Development and in February of this year was assigned the role as Critic for Health. Bonnie is known for her independent views. She was the first legislator in North America to speak out publicly against the War in Iraq. She has voted in favour of all environmental improvement legislation and in her role as Social Development Critic was a strong advocate for the disadvantaged amongst us. As Health critic, Bonnie is a tireless defender of the principles of the Canada Health Act.
