Hassan Yussuff

Hassan YussuffSecretary-Treasurer, Canadian Labour Congress

Hassan Yussuff was first elected Canadian Labour Congress Secretary-Treasurer in 2002. He’s now serving his 2nd three-year term in this position, the second highest leadership position in Canadian labour.

Brother Yussuff’s CLC portfolio includes political action, human rights and anti-racism, free trade and immigration and refugees issues. He is also responsible for labour councils and sits on the Labour Commission for revision of the employment standards rules and of the health and safety provisions of the Canada Labour Code.

Brother Yussuff first became active in the labour movement as a young worker at CanCar in Toronto. By 1988, he had been appointed a National Representative in the CAW organizing department. From there, he moved to the CAW’s service department and became responsible for negotiating collective agreements in the greater Toronto area. In 1995, Brother Yussuff was appointed Director of the CAW Human Rights Department.

He is also a Vice-President of ORIT, the American hemispheric organization of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions.
