Dorval Brunelle

Dorval BrunelleDorval Brunelle is full professor in the department of sociology of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and, since 2004, director of the Observatory of the Americas, attached to the Centre for International Studies and Globalization at UQAM. His research interests are political economy and social integration. Over the past three decades, he has published extensively on Quebec and the Canadian political economy, (La Désillusion tranquille, 1978; Le libre-échange par défaut, with C. Deblock, in 1989). More recently, he studied law and social exclusion (Droit et exclusion : critique de l’ordre liberal, 1997) and globalization (Dérive globale, in 2003) which will be published by University of British Columbia Press, in April of 2007, under the title : From World Order to Global Disorder : States, Markets, and Dissent. He also edited or co-edited a number of books, among them one on NAFTA, in 2004, (L’ALENA : le libre-échange en défaut), and one on public private partnerships in North America, in 2005 (Main basse sur l’État : les partenariats public-privé au Québec et en Amérique du Nord). His latest publication is a collective work entitled The World Social Forums and the Challenges of Global Democracy written in collaboration with Jackie Smith, Marina Karides, Marc Becker, Dorval Brunelle, Christopher Chase-Dunn, Donatella della Porta, Rosalba Icaza, Jeffrey Juris, Lorenzo Mosca, Ellen Reese, Peter Jay Smith and Rolando Vázquez to be published by Paradigm Publishers in the U.S., also in 2007.
