The demonstration was vocal but peaceful as the protesters gathered in front of City Hall to express their views and drum up support against shale gas exploration and hydro-fracking in particular. …The issue has spawned 28 different protest groups across the province many of which were represented at the march which began from Assomption Boulevard and wound its way along Main Street to City Hall. No one from the city was there to greet the protesters.”
Council of Canadians Moncton chapter activist Susan Jardine, Saint John chapter activist Carol Ring and members of the Tantramar (Sackville) chapter were at the protest.
In November 2010, the Council of Canadians was successful in calling on Moncton city council to stop selling its drinking water to Apache Canada, a US-owned mining company, for their hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) testing in the Frederick Brook formation in the Elgin area in southern New Brunswick.
