PEI public hearings
Prince Edward Island Premier Pat Binns has initiated landmark public hearings to determine whether PEI will become Canada’s first GE-Free province.
On December 14, 2004, Premier Binns put forward a motion asking the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and the Environment to launch public hearings into the matter. The Committee’s task: to decide whether banning genetically engineered food, crops, products, and animals would benefit PEI.
The Committee presented its interim report on May 24, 2005. In its report, the Committee affirmed that it will continue to hear from citizens, scientists, and activists on this important issue.
PEI needs your support!
The enormously powerful biotech industry lobby strongly opposes a GE-Free PEI. There is a strong chance that the Committee will recommend against making PEI GE-Free unless concerned citizens make their voices heard.
If you believe that Canadians to have the right to decide what they grow and eat, and that becoming GE-Free would benefit PEI, PLEASE ACT NOW! |
