ACTION ALERT: Stop UN agencies from joining the World Water Council

October 7, 2009

On October 14-16, the World Water Council will hold their annual general meeting in Marseille, France.

It is expected that they will invite up to six United Nations agencies to join their Board of Governors at this meeting.

This is a terrible development and one that we must oppose!

The World Water Council promotes water privatization and UN agencies have no place within this body.

TAKE ACTION!
The Blue Planet Project is asking you to go to the On the Commons website at http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5475/t/6746/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=533 and sign the petition which requests that both the UN Secretary General and President instruct UN agencies not to join the World Water Council.

We are also asking for a truly accountable Global Water Forum following internationally-recognized norms and for the UN to take a role in developing this forum rather than sitting with the private water companies at the World Water Council.

Please sign this petition before October 13 so that we can deliver the letter to Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon and President of the General Assembly Dr. Ali Abdussalam Treki prior to the World Water Council meeting.
