ACTION ALERT: Call-In Day (TODAY) Against the 'New' Security Certificate LawJanuary 25, 2007 The Coalition Justice for Adil Charkaoui is calling for a national day of action TODAY (Friday, January 25) against the "new" security certificate law -- against secret trials, deportation to torture, and a two-tiered justice system. As today will be the last day before Parliament re-opens its session, the group is hoping to flood MP's offices with calls and faxes denouncing Bill C-3, which will re-introduce the security certificate process that was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court last February. Please don't forget to call or fax your MP and, if you have time, other MPs too. Some names and numbers are included below, but you can also have a look at the list of priority MPs. Call in the morning, call in the afternoon and in the evening -- you can even call out west. Call from work, call from home, you get the idea, just CALL! When contacting your MP, ask them to vote against Bill C-3 and to make a public statement opposing the security certificate process. Tell them that a "special advocate" will not resolve anything and that it is an unacceptable process that will only perpetuate a two-tiered justice system in Canada. Ask them very clearly: Are you in favour of a law that allows arbitrary detention, the use of secret information, indefinite detention and deportation to torture? Are you in favour of a two-tiered justice system? Let them know that the Canadian Bar Association and the Barreau du Quebec have said that C-3 is still unconstitutional. As the NDP has already indicated that the party is in favour of abolishing the security certificate, we are asking people to focus on the Liberals, Conservatives and the Bloc.
