NEWS: Atlantic Premiers-New England Governors' SPP Action Plan

Dear activists,

The New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers will be meeting in Roseneath, Prince Edward Island at the Rodd Brudenell River Resort on Monday June 25 and Tuesday June 26.

The provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Québec and the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont will be represented at this meeting.

At their most recent annual conference on May 11-13, 2006 they passed a resolution, "concerning trade cooperation and (a) regional action plan of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America."

That resolution states that, "the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers mandate the Standing Committee on Trade Cooperation to implement the Committee's 2006 work plan to enhance trade relationships between states and provinces, and most particularly and as a priority, to mandate the Committee to complete the document entitled Regional Action Plan on the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America and report back to the next meeting of the Conference on the progress made in implementing this regional plan."

The 3-page "Report to the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers on the Activities of the Standing Committee on Trade Cooperation" from May 2006 can be found here.

This is not a very informative document other than it does outline in their Work Plan for 2006 "setting out three sub-committee streams - trade policy, cross-border infrastructure, and trade promotion."
